Sourcebook

Everything you need to know about the world of Grimmloch.

Through the gates of Horn and Ivory the dreamers come:
the one of horn, through which the spirit seeking truth passes,
the other dazzling-white with polished ivory,
through which the spirit bearing deception comes.

— Lord Horn and Lady Ivory

Players enter the game world when their waking self falls asleep in Valdara and passes through the gates of Horn and Ivory into Grimmloch.

The waking world represents your character’s backstory - a human from a world in the throes of industrial transition. The dreamworld allows the character to become their idealized self - a creature of myth and lore in a world of magic and folktales.

Do you carry Hope and a wish to be seen as your true self? Would you hold up a mirror and say this is how I see myself - will you see me? Or do pain and rage twist that vision into darkness that must be expressed within the shadows you will allow no mirror to shine upon?

For some dreamers, the form their idealized self takes reveals their true self, and for others their form is a mask that hides their truth from all - even themselves. Each is transformed by the gates - each is allowed through.

Grimmloch is a true world from which Myth and fairytales are both born. A world where kittens lose mittens, and boggles eat children. A world where horror stands beside heroes. A world where the mundane is inseparable from the arcane.

A world drawn from our own pre-materialist earth inhabited by creatures once only spoken around the Hearthfire. Dance on mounds with the fair folk, take up a sword at the round table, sail on seas where each constellation beckons you towards glory, or slip beneath the crypt to find the secrets that should never be unearthed.

Are you ready to leave the waking world and cross the sea of dreams?
